With a New Year, or any new season of life, comes a great deal of responsibility and, let’s face it, overwhelm.
Although it can be super tempting to skip the yearly reflecting and goal setting, it’s important not to if you plan on having a successful year in any area of your life.
I’m here to make it as quick and easy as possible for you to reflect back on the past year, use what you’ve discovered, and set intentions/goals for the upcoming year that you’ll actually be able to accomplish. WITHOUT having to spend hours on this activity, because honestly, nobody has time for that!
Clear out the next 10 minutes, set aside all distractions, and sit down in a quiet space with me.
Let’s dive in.
5 Steps to Reflecting and Planning for the Upcoming Year
Here’s a simple way to reflect on the past year and plan for the one ahead.
1️⃣ Start by taking out a pen and paper.
2️⃣ We’re going to do a reflection of the past year. Create two columns titled “What I did well” and “What I could improve”.
3️⃣ Fill out these columns with anything that comes to mind. It could be business-related, personal, career-oriented or anything in between. Be specific.
4️⃣ Once you’re done this, below each column, pick and write down a “Word of the Year” for both last year, and this upcoming year. (For example, my word for this year is THRIVE)! 😉
5️⃣ Now, let’s take those reflections and use them to set specific and attainable goals for the next 12 months (or however long you’re planning for, since this exercise can be done quarterly or monthly as well). Follow the points you’ve written down in the “What I could improve” column, and use them to create goals for the upcoming year. Try to aim for at least 5 goals – and make sure to include some for your business/career, and some for your personal life.
✨ Optional: If you want to go a step further, you can break the year down into quarters or even months, and create projections/milestones that you can hit along the way. This will allow you to refer back to this outline throughout the various seasons and ensure you’re staying on track as time pushes forward.
All the best to you in the year ahead! 🤍
