Should you quit your day job to open your own business? Give up the guaranteed pay for the possibility of huge fortune – or epic failure?

Let’s have a little fun. Here in the Self Paid Club, we’re all about working for ourselves, but there are downsides. There are struggles every business owner knows all too well.

Today, we’re going over some solid reasons why you should NEVER start a business… And why those exact reasons should push you TOWARDS starting one at the same time!

Listen in to the Self Paid Club podcast episode 014: 7 Undeniable Reasons You Should Never Start a Business to discover if it’s really worth it to start a business…or not.

1. It Takes Hard Work

Don’t be fooled no matter what you read online – starting a business isn’t easy. If anyone tells you it is, run! It takes hard work, patience, perseverance, consistency even when you’re not seeing any results, and a lot of time.

On the other hand, everything you do in life is hard. Yes, starting a business is hard. But so is holding down a job that you don’t enjoy. So is wishing your life away, waiting for Friday every single week. Or having to work longer hours to provide for your family, and putting quality time with your kids on the backburner.

So really, which one is harder? Starting a business and learning something new, or staying stuck in a life that isn’t meant for you?

You have to choose your hard.

2. People Will Judge and Doubt You

You’ll have haters. Your business success will bring out the worst in people, meaning you’ll get comments and messages trying to tear you down. Trying to make you feel like what you’re doing is hopeless. Your own family and friends will question why you’re chasing your dreams.

Now, this might come as a shock to you, but people are judging you regardless. They’re judging you whether you’re chasing your dreams or not. Why not live your life the way YOU choose and let them talk about that?

As soon as you let go of others’ opinions, you’ll feel freer than you ever have.

3. You’ll Be Around Your Family Way More

You’d be surprised at how many people I’ve heard say things like this:

  • They like the break they get from their kids.

  • They enjoy time away from their spouse.

  • They’re worried they won’t be able to find things to do to fill the time they get with their family. (And therefore, they’ll let their family down.)

  • They’re worried about the close proximity every day.

  • Or that they’ll get sick of them.

My purpose in life is to help as many people break free from the “norm” and step into lives of abundance and pure independence as possible. And that includes me!! For me, a life of abundance means abundant time with the ones I love. My family. My husband and kids.

You’ll be able to set your schedule and work when it’s convenient for you.

This could mean pulling your kids from daycare, so you can watch them grow up. It could mean taking more trips and exploring what the world has to offer together.

It could mean setting boundaries in your house because you need your own office space and time to yourself to get things done – and informing your family of this so they know in advance. Just because you’re a parent, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a thriving full-time business as well.

4. You’ll Have to Learn Many New Skills

As a solopreneur (when it’s just you in the beginning, with no team), you’ll have to wear all the hats. You’ll be in charge of content creation, business planning, offer development, financial management, marketing, sales, customer service, and so on. Every single task has a massive learning curve that can become frustrating and overwhelming.

The good news? Once you learn a skill, you can carry it with you through any industry, any business, and any pivoting you do throughout your career. Yes, in the beginning the learning curve is giant, but you’re acquiring skills that you can use over the next 10, 20, 30 years.

5. You’ll Be Forced into Deep Personal Growth

If you want to be successful, personal development is required. As a business owner, you’ll be forced into personal growth. You’ll be forced to get uncomfortable. It’ll be scary and you’ll continuously be stepping into the unknown.

You’ll be unrecognizable after starting your own business. People will tell you that you’ve changed. And the truth is, you will. You’ll go through these massive changes and become a better version of yourself. Every single time you level up in your business, you’ll level up as a person as well. Your business will grow alongside you.

Who wants to stay the same their entire life anyway? Isn’t growth the whole point of existence? There’s no better opportunity for personal growth than when you start a business.

6. Your Views in Life Will Change Forever

You’ll never be the same again after starting a business. It will change you to your core.

The way you see the world, the way you look at other businesses, the way you find opportunity around every corner, and the way you view the people around you will all change dramatically. Permanently.

7. You’ll Lose Friends

This is a guarantee and a promise. You will lose friends when you start a business. And when that business becomes successful? You’ll lose even more.

There will be people in your life that surprise you in the worst way. They will doubt you and tell you so outright. Some will disappear and not speak to you anymore, for no apparent reason. Some will be overcome with jealousy. That’s just how it goes.

The result? You’ll have less people in your life who bring you down. Who aren’t meant to be your friends because they don’t lift you up and encourage you to do and be better.

Instead, you’ll gravitate towards other entrepreneurs, other freedom seekers, others who want to see YOU do as well as they want to do themselves. You’ll make friends that you never knew existed – the type of people who believe everyone deserves to thrive and live their life by design.

In my opinion, the more friends I lose because I’m bettering myself, the better. Because those ones aren’t meant to, nor do they deserve to, be part of my life.

There you have it. Seven undeniable reasons you should never start a business – and why those very same reasons are why you HAVE to pursue your passion and dive into the business world headfirst. Change is coming regardless, so let’s be the catalyst and design a life we can’t get enough of.

So now, let me know by leaving a comment… Is it worth it to start a business or not?
